Tamil Nadu medical admission process

The 2026-27 medical admission process in Tamil Nadu has commenced following the release of the state rank list for MBBS and BDS programs. Health Minister K. Arunraj announced that online counselling for the general category is scheduled to begin on August 13, while offline counselling for special categories, including the 7.5% reservation for government school students, begins the same day.

Due to a significant increase in candidates scoring above 600 marks on the NEET-UG exam, experts anticipate a rise in cut-off marks. General category cut-offs for government medical college seats may increase by 13 to 40 marks, while the 7.5% reservation quota could see increases of up to 49 marks. A total of 9,999 MBBS seats are available this year, representing an increase of approximately 850 seats despite some colleges transitioning to deemed university status.

As the counselling process proceeds, individual successes have emerged, such as a 51-year-old Chennai resident who secured an MBBS seat at Nagapattinam Government Medical College through the persons with disabilities category.
