Overview

In mid‑July 2026 the newly elected Tamil Nadu administration under Chief Minister C. An agriculture budget was scheduled for 6 August, and a Climate Budget earmarked up to ₹3,000 crore for coastal erosion control and wetland restoration. The session proceeded without audible protest; opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested and released before the budget, while M. K. Stalin called the plan “total waste” and AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami dismissed it as “sticker politics”.
