Tampico urban infrastructure and mobility improvements

Overview

Tampico has undertaken several urban infrastructure and mobility projects to modernize city services and improve safety.

Between 2023 and July 2026, COMAPA Sur replaced over 63 kilometers of water and sewage pipes in the Tampico-Ciudad Madero area to reduce leaks. Concurrently, Mayor Monica Villarreal Anaya announced a renovation of the historic centre, which includes new lighting on Altamira street and park rehabilitation, funded by underground parking revenues.

In August 2026, authorities also implemented traffic adjustments on Boulevard Adolfo López Mateos. These changes included adding a storage lane near Hangares Street and removing a high-risk U-turn near the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas pedestrian bridge to enhance driver safety and mobility.
