Tamsui pharmacist sexual misconduct investigation

A pharmacist in Tamsui, New Taipei City, identified by the surname Chen, has been detained following allegations of drugging female university students. Initial reports indicated that Chen placed benzodiazepines into a student employee’s water bottle, causing dizziness and memory loss. While Chen claimed he was merely “testing the efficacy of expired drugs” as a joke, prosecutors charged him with several offenses, including the use of deception to administer a third-class narcotic and attempted aggravated sexual intercourse and molestation.

Subsequent investigations revealed a broader pattern of misconduct. It was discovered that Chen had hired more than 10 female university students as assistants within a two-year period. Multiple former employees have since come forward with allegations of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, and sexual harassment. The New Taipei City Pharmacists Association noted an unusually high turnover rate among student employees during this time.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the New Taipei City Health Bureau are monitoring the situation. If the allegations are proven, Chen faces severe disciplinary actions, including the potential permanent revocation of his professional license.
