Tango festivals in Buenos Aires

In August 2026, Buenos Aires hosts a series of significant tango cultural events. The period begins with the ‘Encuentro de Tangos Desviados’ from August 14 to 17, a self-managed initiative focusing on queer, transfeminist, anti-racist, and intersectional perspectives to challenge traditional practices.

This is followed by the Tango BA Festival y Mundial, organized by the Buenos Aires Ministry of Culture, which runs from August 20 through September 2. The festival spans more than 50 venues across 34 neighborhoods and features over 2,000 artists. The program includes concerts, dance exhibitions, classes, and milongas, aiming to foster a dialogue between traditional tango and avant-garde expressions. Notable opening performances at Usina del Arte include artists such as Abel Pintos, Vicentico, Milagros Amud, the Camerata Argentina de Cuerdas, and the Orquesta de Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Other notable participants include the Sexteto Mayor, Ana María Stekelman, and Lito Vitale.

In the Abasto area, the festivities include a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Centro Educativo del Tango de Buenos Aires (CETBA) on August 22, featuring orchestral performances and dance showcases.
