Tarapacá regional economic development initiatives
Overview
The Tarapacá Region is pursuing various strategic development initiatives aimed at enhancing regional competitiveness and sustainability.
In early August, the region began advancing a Regional Bioeconomy Strategy through technical workshops. This initiative, funded by the Tarapacá Regional Government and executed by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, focuses on the sustainable transformation of agricultural systems and the innovative use of biological resources.
By late August, efforts expanded to include the logistics sector. The Tarapacá Logistics Governance group presented a strategic and economic projection study to evaluate the region’s potential as a South American logistics hub. This project seeks to leverage the region’s port activity, Free Trade Zone, and geographic location to increase competitiveness and employment through improved coordination among public, private, and academic stakeholders.
