Tarsila do Amaral immersive exhibition in São Paulo

Overview

To mark the 140th anniversary of the birth of Brazilian modernist painter Tarsila do Amaral, the immersive exhibition ‘O Brasil de Tarsila’ has opened at the Nubank Arte Lab in São Paulo. Located in the Conjunto Nacional on Avenida Paulista, the exhibition is scheduled to run until October 31.

Curated by Juliana Miraldi and Paola do Amaral Montenegro, the showcase features more than 70 reinterpreted works across 14 environments. Rather than displaying original paintings, the exhibition utilizes 360-degree projections, digital animation, soundscapes, scenography, and scents to create a sensory experience. Visitors can interact with iconic works, such as ‘Abaporu’ and ‘Operários’, through three-dimensional installations and interactive elements.

The project involved a team of over 32 digital and plastic artists to maintain aesthetic fidelity to the original modernist works. Notably, the audiovisual content was developed without the use of artificial intelligence to ensure aesthetic consistency. The exhibition aims to democratize access to art, providing visibility to works often held in private collections or restricted locations for both longtime admirers and new audiences.
