Teenage drowning incidents in Malaysia

Overview

In mid-August 2026, a 14-year-old boy was found dead in the Kelantan River in Kuala Krai after disappearing while swimming. While his body was recovered by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), search operations for a second 14-year-old boy remained ongoing following heavy rain and limited visibility.

Later in the month, a separate drowning incident occurred in Sungai Pagalan, Keningau, involving two teenagers aged 13 and 16. Following a multi-agency search and rescue operation involving the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, both victims were located and recovered.
