Telangana land acquisition and encroachment disputes

Overview

Political tensions in Telangana have escalated over allegations of land scams and government land encroachment. Congress lawmakers have accused former BRS Minister Harish Rao of using his previous position to illegally acquire land from farmers in Siddipet and manipulating local development to benefit his private estate.

In response to such claims, revenue officials have begun using technology to demarcate boundaries and issue notices to individuals suspected of encroaching on government land near the farmhouse of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced an inquiry into these encroachments, with plans to assign recovered land to Dalit communities.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao has countered these accusations, challenging the Chief Minister to release a white paper detailing specific survey numbers and names regarding alleged land grabs in Sircilla. Additionally, Rama Rao has addressed farmers affected by land acquisition for the Bullet Train Project, promising to return land titles, or ‘pattas’, if the BRS returns to power.
