Telangana student fee reimbursement dispute

Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao has launched a series of protests against the state government regarding approximately Rs 15,000 crore in unpaid student fee reimbursements. Rao initiated a 48-hour hunger strike, alleging that the Congress-led government’s negligence has jeopardized the futures of 40 lakh students. He claimed that educational institutions are withholding student certificates due to these unpaid dues, which prevents students from pursuing higher education or securing employment.

Following the hunger strike, Rao escalated his protest by writing an open letter in Italian to Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Rao described Italian as Gandhi’s ‘mother tongue’ and stated he chose the language because previous appeals to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy failed to gain attention.

In his correspondence, Rao noted that the delay in payments has also caused colleges to struggle with operational costs and employee salaries. He further reported facing police action and multiple arrests during his protests, while accusing the state government of failing to meet commitments regarding job recruitment and unemployment allowances.
