Teramo Province storm response

A powerful storm struck Italy’s Teramo province on 22 July 2026, causing widespread damage to homes, businesses, farms, vehicles and public infrastructure. Regional councilor Sandro Mariani urged the Abruzzo regional government to declare the area a natural disaster so that emergency aid and financial assistance could be mobilised, and called on municipalities to document damage promptly.

In early August, Prefect Mariano visited the province and met with local officials, including President Camillo D'Angelo. The officials discussed the recent hailstorm’s impact alongside past earthquakes, and highlighted the need for reconstruction, particularly the seismic reinforcement of schools. The visit underscored coordination among regional authorities, civil protection and the national government to address the storm’s aftermath and plan long‑term rebuilding.
