Tesla has denied all wrongdoing, describing the lawsuit as ‘misguided’ and maintaining that the company does not tolerate discrimination. Defense attorney Tyree Jones has argued that certain racial slurs were used among workers as ‘casual greetings’ or even as a ‘term of respect and endearment’ within certain contexts. Judge Peter Borkon will determine if Tesla violated California’s civil rights laws, with a ruling potentially forcing a fundamental overhaul of the company’s labor and human resources policies.
