Overview
Texas Instruments has introduced the TMCS2100-Q1, a multiaxial coreless Hall-effect current sensor intended for use in electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) traction inverters.
The sensor is designed to address the trade-off between the accuracy of large magnetic-core sensors and the compact size of coreless alternatives. By measuring magnetic field components both horizontally and vertically, the device uses a proprietary algorithm to compensate for measurement errors resulting from vibrations, mounting deviations, or magnetic crosstalk.
Texas Instruments reports that this technology can be up to 20 times more accurate than existing single-direction coreless sensors. The improved precision in the traction inverter is expected to enhance powertrain torque control, potentially resulting in smoother acceleration, reduced motor noise, improved efficiency, and extended driving range.
