Texas law enforcement fatal shooting during pursuit
Overview
A high-speed pursuit involving a stolen Fort Worth Fire Department ambulance resulted in a fatal shooting by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on Interstate 35 in Austin.
The incident began after the ambulance was reported stolen from Station 4 in Fort Worth. On Thursday morning, troopers located the vehicle in Williamson County. Following a refusal to stop, a pursuit ensued during which the suspect allegedly rammed multiple vehicles and evaded PIT maneuvers.
The chase ended on the upper deck of I-35 in Austin, where a DPS trooper shot and killed the driver. One adult was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The pursuit caused significant traffic disruptions, requiring the closure of southbound I-35 lanes from U.S. 183 to Airport Boulevard.
