Thai customs and excise enforcement operations

Overview

Thai authorities have conducted several operations to intercept the smuggling and distribution of tax-evaded and prohibited goods.

In Prachuap Khiri Khan, officials launched the ‘Phitak Khiri Khan Operation’ to disrupt a ring transporting contraband from southern Thailand to Bangkok. Through searches of passenger trains and road checkpoints, security agencies seized approximately 370,600 sticks of foreign cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, brand-name bags, and perfume, with a total value exceeding 4.37 million baht.

Following this, a joint raid by the Chong Chom Customs Office and the Excise Department targeted a warehouse in Nakhon Ratchasima. Acting on undercover surveillance, officers seized over 10,000 items, including illegal cigarettes, e-cigarettes, illicit alcohol, and fireworks, valued at roughly 2,000,000 baht. The investigation suggested the facility, which allegedly used a food stall as a front, served as a distribution hub for local shops and residents.
