Thai police crackdowns on etomidate drug sales

Overview

Thai authorities have conducted multiple sting operations targeting the sale of etomidate, an intravenous anesthetic, often distributed via electronic cigarettes or pods.

In late August, police in Banglamung arrested a 21-year-old man in Pattaya following an undercover operation in the Naklua area. The suspect was caught attempting to sell an etomidate pod via Facebook. A search of his residence yielded several cartridges, ketamine, and drug paraphernalia.

In early September, a raid in Bangkok’s Khan Na Yao district led to the arrest of two Chinese nationals and one Thai woman. This operation targeted the sale of products referred to as “zombie vapes.” Authorities seized a large cache of illicit items, including 839 etomidate-containing cartridges, nearly 1,000 electronic vaping devices, and liquid etomidate, with an estimated total value of 2.5 million baht.
