Thailand hosting 2026 IMF and World Bank meetings

Overview

Thailand is preparing to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok from October 12–18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

As a precursor, the Bangkok Business Summit 2026 was held on September 3 under the theme ‘Reinvent Thailand, Resilient ASEAN’. Organized by the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry, Banks, and Agriculture (JSCCIB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Thailand, the National Economic and Social Development Council, and the World Bank, the summit focused on economic restructuring and transforming Thailand into a regional investment hub.

During the event, the World Bank released ‘Building Thailand’s Future Today: The Investment and Growth Playbook’, detailing strategies for productivity and long-term growth through structural reforms. Payong Srivanich, Co-Chairman of the JSCCIB, emphasized that transitioning to a low-carbon economy is essential for competitiveness, noting that Thailand must integrate SMEs into green value chains to attract future-oriented industries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, identified three key outcomes from the summit: a shared goal to drive ASEAN growth, a consensus on collaborative problem-solving, and the establishment of a continuous platform for cooperation. To implement these goals, the Joint Public and Private Sector Consultative Committee (JPPSCC) will focus on four pillars: investment and new economic engines, trade and community economy, human resource development, and public sector efficiency.
