The Hague cybersecurity hub development

Overview

The Hague is positioning itself as an international cybersecurity hub through a series of initiatives focused on digital safety, innovation, and workforce development.

In late September, the city announced Cybersecurity Week, scheduled for early October. The program includes over fifteen events such as the ONE Conference for professionals, a policy hackathon for students, and ‘Hâck the Hague’, where 120 ethical hackers will test municipal digital systems. The week also features educational sessions for children and small business owners.

Building on these efforts, the city is addressing talent shortages and employee burnout by launching subsidized leadership training for cybersecurity professionals in November 2026. Following research commissioned by the city, this free program aims to help managers support technical specialists and improve employee retention. Deputy Mayor Richard de Mos noted that the city must invest in people to complement its investments in technology.
