The Weeknd Japan tour and exclusive releases

To mark his return to Japan and the ‘After Hours Til Dawn Tour’, artist The Weeknd announced a series of exclusive music and fashion projects.

In late August, it was announced that a Japan-exclusive ‘After Hours Til Dawn Collection’ would be released on September 11, 2026. This compilation includes works from ‘After Hours’, ‘Dawn FM’, ‘The Idol’, and ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, featuring artwork by Yoshitaka Amano and a new version of ‘Out of Time’ featuring Tomoko Aran. A pop-up store was also scheduled at Universal Music Store Harajuku for the period of September 11 to September 21.

By September 11, the projects officially launched. In addition to the music collection and the Harajuku pop-up store, a fashion collaboration with WILDSIDE YOHJI YAMAMOTO was released, featuring items like leather jackets and hoodies using illustrations by Saeko Tsuemura. The music release also included a cover of David Lynch’s ‘In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)’. Furthermore, a themed train wrapped in tour visuals was scheduled to operate toward Belluna Dome until September 26.

During the kickoff of the Asian leg of the tour at Belluna Dome in Saitama, Japan, Abel Tesfaye debuted an unreleased song titled ‘Tokyo’. The track samples ‘A Cruel Angel’s Thesis’ and features Yoko Takahashi. The performance utilized multimedia visuals directed by Yoko Taro, incorporating imagery from the ‘NieR:Automata’ video game and the ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’ anime series.

In a recent interview with GQ Hong Kong, Tesfaye also addressed rumors of retirement, clarifying that he has no intention of abandoning his stage persona. He described any upcoming break as a period of ‘hibernating’ rather than a permanent departure. The tour is set to continue through Jakarta, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, and Hong Kong, before concluding in Kuala Lumpur in November.
