Theft incidents in the Netherlands and Belgium

In late July 2026, police in the Netherlands and Belgium reported a series of thefts targeting cash and valuables. On 21 July, a fraudster impersonating a police officer or bank employee stole cash and jewellery from a residence in Helden, Netherlands, prompting authorities to seek witnesses and CCTV footage. Two days earlier, during the Gentse Feesten in Ghent, Belgium, a burglary at the Pureto food stall resulted in the loss of about €1,000, leading the stall owners to reassess security measures.

Three days after the Helden incident, investigators in Helmond, Netherlands, responded to an armed robbery at a commercial premises on Lucas Gasselstraat. Two masked perpetrators arrived on a red Piaggio Zip scooter, used a weapon to force open the cash register, and fled, possibly aided by a black Mercedes seen nearby. Police again appealed for witnesses and video evidence.
