Theft of gold from religious idols in Bangladesh
Overview
Authorities in Bangladesh have arrested four individuals in connection with the theft of gold from deity idols at three temples located across Dhaka and Narayanganj.
The investigation was prompted by a theft at the Sri Sri Ramna Kali Mandir on October 7, where gold was removed from the tongue of a Kali idol. Using CCTV footage, police identified the suspects, including a couple and two shopkeepers who allegedly purchased the stolen items. The suspects also confessed to involvement in a previous theft at the Siddheswari Kali Mandir on September 13. A portion of the stolen gold has been recovered.
