Three Rivers Land Trust conservation efforts
Overview
The Three Rivers Land Trust has facilitated several permanent conservation easements in central North Carolina to protect wildlife habitats, water quality, and forest land.
Initial efforts included securing 130 acres of farm and forest land along Abbotts Creek in Davidson County. This property, located at the mouth of High Rock Lake, features 3,600 feet of creek frontage and 56 acres of bottomland hardwood forest intended to protect the Yadkin River Basin.
Subsequent conservation actions expanded to include 150 acres spanning Iredell and Alexander counties, protecting mature forests and portions of Shumaker Mountain. Additionally, 84 acres were conserved in Cabarrus County along the Rocky River to protect the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin, a primary drinking water source for more than 1 million people.
