Thyroid eye disease drug funding dispute in Spain
Overview
In Spain, the Spanish Association of Patients with Thyroid Eye Disease (EOT España) is demanding that the Ministry of Health and autonomous communities rectify a decision to deny funding for teprotumumab. The association argues that the refusal to fund the treatment on July 15 was an error that has negatively impacted patients' vision, social lives, and ability to work.
EOT España president Pilar Carnicero stated, “We are not asking for a new opportunity, we demand that an error that has already cost patients dearly be corrected.” The group is calling for action during the Interministerial Commission on Drug Prices meeting scheduled for September 23.
