Tierra del Fuego LeoLabs radar investigation
Overview
A special investigative commission of the Tierra del Fuego Legislature is examining the authorizations granted to LeoLabs Inc. and LeoLabs Argentina SRL for the installation of a radar and ground station in Tolhuin.
The inquiry, led by Commission President Pablo Villegas, seeks to determine political and technical responsibility regarding the administrative and judicial procedures of the installation. While some agencies have cooperated, the commission has noted delays and a lack of documentation from the Provincial Energy Directorate (DPE).
During the investigation, former Secretary of Energy Moisés Solorza testified that he had no knowledge of the requests to install the radar and could not recall how he learned of the installation, attributing permit management to the DPE. However, documentation indicates that LeoLabs Inc. had initiated administrative processes for electrical supply feasibility as early as November 2021, during Solorza’s tenure as Secretary of Energy.
