Tiger shark capture in Alagoas, Brazil
Overview
Fishermen near Pituba Beach in Coruripe, Alagoas, Brazil, captured a tiger shark weighing approximately 300 kilograms and measuring over two meters in length.
Cláudio Buia, a specialist from the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal), identified the specimen as a tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier). While the species can reach lengths of up to 5.5 meters, local fishermen noted that finding an animal of this size in the area is uncommon. Experts stated that the shark’s presence near the coast does not necessarily indicate a threat to humans. Images of the shark being transported on a donkey-drawn cart were widely circulated on social media following the capture.
