Tigres del Licey managerial strategy and preparation

Overview

Gilbert Gómez, manager of the Tigres del Licey, has outlined a new strategic direction for the 2026-27 LIDOM season following a disappointing previous campaign in which the team finished with a 9-16 record and missed the postseason.

Gómez has demanded that the team adopt “playoff-type” intensity from the start of the regular season to prevent early losses from becoming insurmountable. As the team prepares for the season, Gómez has rejoined training sessions in Boca Chica, marking his sixth campaign with the organization. He previously led the team to a championship during the 2023-24 season.

During the off-season, Gómez served as a first base and outfield coach for the New York Mets. He has now arrived at Baseball City in Boca Chica to lead the Tigres del Licey training sessions. Additionally, catcher Francisco Mejía has joined the training camp following his tenure with the Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican Baseball League.

As preparations for the LIDOM season continue, the Tigres del Licey have announced the signing of Panamanian reliever Javy Guerra. The organization is currently refining its roster through a combination of veterans and imports, with a specific focus on building pitching depth.
