Tivat municipal planning initiatives
Overview
In late July 2026, the municipality of Tivat, Montenegro, opened a public consultation to draft its 2026‑2030 Culture Development Program, inviting residents, NGOs, cultural institutions and experts to shape the city’s cultural agenda. A working group led by Maja Marović organized focus groups for citizens aged 15 and above and a call for written proposals on heritage protection, youth content, accessibility and public‑private‑civil cooperation.
A few weeks later, in early August 2026, Tivat signed a €270,000 contract with the Montenegrin Spatial Planning Agency to prepare a new Spatial‑Urban Plan covering the municipality through 2040. The agreement includes a public meeting to gather input on parking, traffic, pedestrian and bicycle routes, and stresses the need to balance development with environmental protection within the UNESCO buffer zone. Both steps reflect a broader push by Tivat’s authorities to involve the community in shaping the town’s cultural and spatial future.
