Tokyo cocaine possession arrests involving organized crime

Overview

In July 2026, Tokyo police arrested Shota Sugawara, a 32-year-old member of the Yamaguchi-gumi crime syndicate, and 27-year-old adult film actress Seina Shin for suspected cocaine possession.

The arrests took place during a raid at a Toshima Ward hotel conducted as part of a separate investigation into Sugawara’s involvement in attempted robbery and special fraud. Officers reportedly discovered approximately 0.7 grams of cocaine in bags located under bedsheets and on a bedside shelf.

Authorities identified Sugawara as a leader of an ‘anonymous and fluid crime group’ known as Tokuryu. While Sugawara has admitted to the drug allegations, Abe has denied using the substance. Investigators are looking into whether funds from fraudulent activities were used to purchase drugs and fund hotel stays.
