Toledo brain injury rehabilitation initiative

In July 2026, the Toledo City Consortium and the Provincial Council approved funding for two local projects: the conversion of the historic Alamillos del Tránsito building into a cohousing complex, and a €14.67 million investment to create a new Unit for Rehabilitation of Acquired Brain Damage (UDACE) at the San José assisted‑living residence. The funding covered construction, medical equipment and long‑term loan financing for specialized brain‑injury care.

Later that month, the Provincial Council issued a public tender to carry out the UDACE project, renovating Pavilion 3 of the San José residence. The tender, with a €14.67 million budget split between building works (€12.77 million) and equipment (€1.9 million), seeks to deliver 40 inpatient beds, ambulatory rehabilitation services and a day‑hospital capable of treating 200‑400 patients annually. The deadline for bids is 28 August.

These steps show the initiative progressing from approval and financing to the procurement phase, moving the province closer to delivering specialized brain‑injury rehabilitation services locally.
