Toluca municipal safety and infrastructure initiatives

Overview

The municipal government of Toluca has implemented various public safety and infrastructure initiatives. Initial efforts focused on traffic and motorcycle enforcement, specifically the ‘Moto Segura’ initiative. According to Jorge Alberto Ayón Monsalve, Director General of Public Security and Protection, approximately 500 motorcycles were removed from circulation due to lack of documentation. These operations also targeted illegal parking to improve mobility.

Subsequently, the city introduced mobile command units, designated as C4-Mobile Reaction and Intelligence Units. These units utilize advanced technology, including city camera integration, smart patrols, SOS buttons, and drone helipads to improve emergency response times.

Parallel to security upgrades, the government committed to street rehabilitation in San Pedro Totoltepec, specifically on Rancho Don Pepe and Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez avenues. To manage security in areas bordering San Mateo Atenco and Lerma, the municipality has pledged to coordinate with the Lerma City Council.

Expanding on these infrastructure efforts, Mayor Ricardo Moreno has authorized the second stage of rehabilitating the Camino al Tejocote. This project aims to complete a four-kilometer corridor connecting San Pablo Autopan and Santiago Miltepec to the Toluca-Ixtlahuaca highway. The works, which include asphalt paving, sidewalk construction, and improved cycling paths, are expected to benefit nearly 14,000 residents.
