Toronto transit service disruptions

Overview

In late July 2026, GO Transit and the Toronto Transit Commission announced extensive weekend service adjustments for July 24‑26. Construction at Exhibition Station and related projects on the Lakeshore West, Barrie, Kitchener lines and the UP Express led to reduced train frequencies, complete suspension of the Barrie line, and bus replacements for affected stations. Additional detours were required for municipal routes because of festivals and other events across the Greater Toronto area.

A week later, the TTC issued further construction‑related changes. Overnight on August 6‑7, streetcar routes 301 Queen, 501 Queen and 511 Bathurst were detoured and replaced by shuttle buses while infrastructure work proceeded. Concurrently, a crane operation forced the closure of a section of Dundas Street West, prompting detours for bus routes 30, 40A/40B and 340 from the morning of August 7 through early August 10. These updates reflect a continuing pattern of short‑term service modifications to accommodate ongoing construction projects throughout the Toronto transit network.
