Total solar eclipse in Mallorca
Overview
Leading up to the total solar eclipse on 12 August, hospitality providers such as Meliá Hotels International prepared exclusive viewing packages in Mallorca and Menorca. These offerings included private yacht excursions designed to position guests in the center of the path of totality.
On the day of the event, Mallorca experienced massive crowds as thousands of tourists and enthusiasts gathered in locations such as Santa Ponça, Playa de Palma, Alcúdia, and Formentor. The high volume of people led to supply shortages for local businesses and required a police presence to manage crowds on beaches and in pine groves. The eclipse reached totality around 20:32, lasting approximately one and a half minutes.
