Tottenham Bergvall saga continues as bids rise

Entities: Lucas Bergvall · Tottenham Hotspur · Newcastle United · Richard Ríos · Benfica

Overview

Tottenham have kept rejecting offers for 20‑year‑old Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall. After turning down Nottingham Forest’s £38 million bid in June, the club also spurned a £50 million Forest proposal later in the month and a £46 million offer from Newcastle United in mid‑July. Interest has broadened to include AC Milan, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and other European sides, while Sunderland have tabled a €66 million package with bonuses. Bergvall, who signed a contract running to 2031, has repeatedly said he wants regular first‑team football and has missed the start of Spurs’ pre‑season training in New Zealand. Manager Roberto De Zerbi reiterated his policy that any player who is not “proud and happy to stay” must leave, and said he will meet the midfielder in the coming days. Newcastle are prepared to raise their bid to around £60 million, and both Newcastle and Forest are now willing to meet a valuation of roughly £50 million. Manchester United opened contact in late July, valuing Bergvall at £50‑55 million and seeing him as an immediate and future contributor. Tottenham’s transfer agenda was further disrupted after a proposed £80 million offer for Bournemouth striker Eli Kroupi collapsed when the 20‑year‑old suffered a broken foot. The club has therefore shifted focus to 21‑year‑old Nicolo Tresoldi of Club Brugge, who scored 32 goals last season, and now competes with Barcelona, Roma and Borussia Dortmund for his signature. Spurs are also monitoring Villarreal forward Georges Mikautadze, the 25‑year‑old Georgian who netted 13 goals and provided six assists in La Liga and was a joint top‑scorer at Euro 2024, as a versatile attacking option, although no formal approach has been made.
