Tourism development in Lai Chau province

Overview

Lai Chau province is implementing Resolution 26-NQ/TW to transform its natural and cultural assets into a sustainable tourism economy, aiming to establish tourism as a spearhead economic sector in Vietnam. The province is shifting its strategy from increasing visitor volume to enhancing quality and creating value-added experiences to encourage longer stays and higher spending.

Between 2021 and 2025, the province hosted over 5 million visitors, generating more than 3,800 billion VND in revenue. In the first seven months of 2026, visitor numbers were estimated to exceed 1.1 million, with revenue surpassing 1,007 billion VND.

As part of these efforts, Lao Chai village has emerged as a significant model for community-based tourism. Located at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters, the village leverages Hmong ethnic heritage, terraced rice fields, and tea gardens. Local residents have contributed to development by maintaining traditional wooden houses, establishing homestay services, and preserving the local landscape to provide comprehensive travel experiences.
