Tourism growth in Tropical North Queensland

Overview

Tropical North Queensland is undergoing a period of significant tourism expansion, supported by over $295 million in infrastructure investment. International visitor spending reached a record $1.3 billion for the year ending March 2026, a 27.6% increase from the prior year.

Major ongoing projects include an $85 million Skyrail Rainforest Cableway upgrade, a $60 million Skyhaven accommodation development at Cairns Airport, the Hilton Palm Cove Cairns Resort & Spa, a $59 million Wangetti Trail, and a $40 million redevelopment of Double Island by the Morris Group.

To manage long-term growth, the region has approved the TNQ 2045 Destination Management Plan, which aims for $10 billion in visitor expenditure by 2045.
