Tourism recognition and culinary networking in Trapani
Overview
The Trapani area in Sicily has been ranked first in Italy for the quality and variety of its tourist experiences. This recognition was part of the Premi Italia Destinazione Digitale 2026, presented at the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini. The ranking, which utilized artificial intelligence to analyze data such as online reviews and connectivity, highlighted the region’s ability to offer diverse attractions including culture, nature, and gastronomy beyond traditional seaside tourism.
Following this recognition, twelve municipalities in the Trapani coastal area—including Mazara del Vallo, San Vito Lo Capo, Favignana, and Pantelleria—signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the ‘Itinerari del gusto’ (Taste Itineraries) network. This initiative seeks to market the region as a unified culinary destination by integrating local seafood cuisine, salt pans, and tuna fisheries. The network is a collaborative effort involving the Fondazione Torri e Tonnare del Litorale Trapanese, the Western Sicily tourist district, and the tour operator Sicilia da Scoprire.
