Tourism trends and economic aid in Serbia

Serbia has seen activity in both international and domestic tourism sectors. Turkish citizens have increasingly utilized visa-free entry policies to visit the country for short trips, drawn by direct flights from Istanbul and budget-friendly travel options.

Simultaneously, the Serbian government continues to support domestic tourism through a voucher program for pensioners. These state-funded vouchers, worth 10,000 dinars, allow low-income retirees to stay at participating hospitality facilities, with popular destinations including Sokobanja, Vrnjačka Banja, and Zlatibor.

In September 2026, the government expanded its economic support through a 980.6 million euro package designed to mitigate inflation and economic pressure. As part of this initiative, the state began distributing one-time financial aid to approximately 1.66 million pensioners and social benefit recipients. The amount of these payments is tiered based on August pension levels: recipients of up to 31,092.11 dinars will receive 35,000 dinars, those with pensions between 31,092.12 and 56,822 dinars will receive 27,500 dinars, and those with higher pensions will receive 20,000 dinars.

Other recipients, including those receiving child benefits, social assistance, and combatant benefits, are slated to receive 25,000 dinars. The broader package also includes measures to reduce medicine prices and tourist vouchers for pensioners that remain valid until November 1.
