Tourist thefts along Italian coastlines

Overview

Reports have emerged regarding a series of thefts targeting tourists and beachgoers along various Italian coastlines.

Initial incidents were reported in Capaccio Paestum, where thieves targeted parked vehicles near Lido Cerere to steal luggage. Local Carabinieri noted that multiple individuals had fallen victim to similar thefts from vehicles parked near beaches during the summer months.

As the trend expanded, reports surfaced from Bari and Cagliari. In Bari, thieves at Pane e Pomodoro beach have reportedly used towels or clothing to conceal bags and backpacks, allowing them to quickly seize valuables like phones and wallets while victims are swimming. In Cagliari, authorities reported thefts at the Poetto coastline, including vehicle break-ins and the theft of mobile phones. Carabinieri officers recently detained a suspect in Cagliari following an attempted robbery and a mobile phone theft, identifying the individual through fingerprint analysis.
