TP Mazembe and Medeama SC CAF Champions League tie

Overview

DR Congo football club TP Mazembe entered their CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg match against Ghana’s Medeama SC with a 22-man squad. Communications chief Jantis Mutombo stated the team was prepared for the challenge and would not be intimidated by the atmosphere at TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.

In the first leg, TP Mazembe secured a 1-0 victory. After a scoreless first half, Lyse Nyembo scored in the 86th minute following a pass from Lanjesi Nkoma. A second goal for Mazembe was disallowed in the 91st minute due to a disputed position. Although Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko expressed disappointment, he maintained optimism for the return leg in Lubumbashi.

The decisive second leg resulted in TP Mazembe securing advancement to the second preliminary round after a 3-1 victory in Lubumbashi. This gave the Congolese side a 4-1 win on aggregate. Patrick Mwaungulu scored twice for Mazembe, while Josué Kazema added a third goal. Dominic Amponsah scored a late consolation goal for Medeama SC.
