Traditional Japanese craft exhibitions in late 2026

Overview

Various events celebrating traditional Japanese craftsmanship are scheduled for late 2026. In Tokyo, the ‘KOGEI WALK 2026’ event, organized by the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries, runs from October 23 to November 5. This initiative features 25 types of crafts, such as Kyoto folding fans and Nishijin textiles, across 27 lifestyle shops in districts like Ginza and Omotesando. The event includes workshops, live demonstrations, and a stamp rally to connect artisans with modern consumers.

Other scheduled exhibitions include the ‘Utsuwa no Tsukurite-ichi’ (Pottery Makers Market) in Komono on October 31 and November 1, which focuses on Banko ware and features 38 potters. Additionally, the 14th TOKYO Shokunin-ten will be held at the Traditional Crafts Aoyama Square in Minato from November 6 to November 19. Organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, this exhibition showcases 11 young artisans specializing in categories such as Edo binding, shamisen making, and silverware to support successor training.
