Overview
Italy has experienced a series of significant road incidents and planned infrastructure works. On the SS3 Flaminia highway, a serious rear-end collision involving an electric vehicle occurred near the Eggi di Spoleto junction, resulting in two women being airlifted to a hospital. Authorities are investigating why the electric vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system failed to intervene. Additionally, a five-kilometer stretch of the SS3 Flaminia between Gualdo Tadino and Nocera Umbra is scheduled for deep pavement restoration, causing traffic diversions through late October.
Further disruptions occurred on September 10 involving multiple motorway accidents. A collision on the A26 motorway near Masone and Ovada caused a 4 km traffic jam. On the A2 motorway near the Salerno-Avellino junction, a 13-vehicle pileup involving cars, motorcycles, and heavy goods vehicles resulted in seven injuries. The A2 was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to secure the scene.
