Traffic accidents in Ecuador and Venezuela
Overview
A series of traffic accidents has been reported across Ecuador and Venezuela.
In early September, incidents in Ecuador included a vehicle plunging into an abyss on the Los Puentes road in Esmeraldas, injuring two people, and a head-on collision on the El Tigre-Bolívar highway involving a Ford Fiesta and a Jeep Cherokee. The latter occurred after drivers attempted to avoid a motorcyclist who fled the scene.
By mid-September, reports expanded to include a heavy vehicle overturning at an overpass in Guayaquil, causing significant congestion and leading to the driver being placed at the disposal of the law. Search operations were also launched for a motorcyclist who fell from the Unidad Nacional Bridge.
In Venezuela, fatal and injurious accidents were reported on the Caracas-La Guaira highway involving a motorcyclist, and a multi-motorcycle collision in La Yaguara, which prompted local calls for stricter traffic regulations.
