Traffic law enforcement in France

Overview

French law enforcement has reported various traffic violations involving driving under the influence, unlicensed operation, and significant speeding.

In early August, police in Pamiers detained a driver for exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit by more than three times, while in Dieppe, a 22-year-old was taken into custody after fleeing on foot following a high-speed pursuit without a license.

Later in the month, gendarmes in the Nord and Somme regions reported multiple major speeding offenses. These incidents included a driver traveling at 104 km/h in a 50 km/h zone and several others on motorways and departmental roads exceeding limits by significant margins. Consequences for these violations included license seizure, vehicle impoundment, and potential criminal charges.

On August 23, authorities in the Somme department reported further extreme speeding during road safety operations. In Fresnoy-lès-Roye, two drivers were recorded at 193 km/h and 192 km/h on the A1 motorway, well above the 130 km/h limit. Other infractions on departmental roads included speeds of 148 km/h in Clairy-Saulchoix and 133 km/h in Yvrench. Additionally, a driver in Athies was caught traveling at 136 km/h while under the influence of alcohol. Authorities responded to these incidents with vehicle impoundments and license suspensions.
