Trump memecoin investor gala and related ethics debates
Overview
The team behind the $TRUMP memecoin has announced an exclusive gala dinner scheduled for November 22 at the Trump National Golf Club. Attendance is determined by a scoring system based on token holdings and duration, with a snapshot to be taken on November 12. The event aims to reward the top 185 holders, including a VIP reception for the top 29 and 18-karat gold Trump-branded watches for the top four. Organizers have clarified that “no attendees will be granted a private meet & greet with the President.”
Recent on-chain data reveals that the TRUMP memecoin team has transferred approximately 81.87 million tokens to centralized exchanges, such as Binance and OKX, over an eight-month period. Valued at roughly $249 million, these transfers represent about 8.2% of the total token supply. It remains unconfirmed whether these movements constitute actual sales or liquidations.
An analysis of cryptocurrency holdings has revealed that at least 52 of the top 100 holders of the $TRUMP meme coin are using exchanges that prohibit U.S. customers, such as Binance, Bybit, and MEXC. Holders tied to these platforms account for approximately $6.8 million of the leaderboard’s total value of more than $15 million.
This has prompted concerns regarding foreign influence. Zach Everson of Public Citizen noted that the situation appears to allow foreign actors “direct access to the president,” while former White House ethics lawyer Virginia Canter suggested that overseas exchanges are facilitating foreign investors in “buying seats at the president’s table.”
The announcement follows the recent failure of the Clarity Act in the Senate on September 15. Financial reports indicate that Trump earned over $635 million from the memecoin in 2025 through licensing royalties.
