Truong My Lan fraud liquidation

In July 2026 the Ho Chi Minh City Civil Enforcement Office announced a third public auction of a 2013 Lexus ES 300h belonging to convicted fraudster Trương Mỹ Lan. After two earlier attempts failed, the starting price was cut to 635 million VND (about US$27,000). The auction was part of a broader seizure of assets tied to the Van Thịnh Phát fraud case, for which Lan is serving a life sentence and ordered to repay roughly 30 trillion VND to over 43,000 victims.

Later that month the Ho Chi Minh City Civil Enforcement Court disbursed a third installment of more than VND 318 billion to 42,607 bondholders who held claims against Lan’s liabilities. The payment was one of nine rounds conducted between June 2025 and May 2026, aimed at recovering the massive debt. New provisions of Vietnam’s 2025 Civil Enforcement Law and Finance Ministry Decree 72/2026 granted fee‑waivers to vulnerable groups, facilitating broader participation in the repayment process.

Together, the auction and the bondholder payout illustrate the ongoing enforcement actions to liquidate Lan’s assets and distribute recovered funds to victims and claimants.
