Tuberculosis outbreak in Warsaw kindergarten

Overview

A tuberculosis outbreak was identified at a kindergarten in the Białołęka district of Warsaw. The outbreak was traced to an employee diagnosed with infectious (smear-positive) tuberculosis, which led to the detection of one child with non-infectious tuberculosis and three children with latent infections.

Health authorities initiated an epidemiological investigation, identifying 24 children who had direct contact with the infectious employee. These children were referred for diagnostic testing, with some requiring hospitalization and others undergoing screening. To prevent further spread, the facility underwent disinfection of rooms and toys, with additional ozonation planned.

As the situation progressed, authorities confirmed that the kindergarten would remain closed until the end of the summer holidays. Children identified with latent infections have been placed on preventive treatment. Sanitary inspectors continue to monitor all individuals who had contact with the infected persons.
