Tulum tourism regulation and diversification

Overview

Under the ‘Tulum Renace’ program, authorities in Quintana Roo have initiated new regulatory and diversification strategies for the tourism sector in Tulum.

Initially, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa launched a registration and certification strategy for service providers within Tulum’s Jaguar Park. This initiative, coordinated with entities such as the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), aims to professionalize the sector by creating an official registry for artisans, vendors, and medical personnel. This move follows a period where park entrance revenue ceased going to INAH.

Following the launch, the Secretariat of Tourism reported that approximately 150 authorized providers have been registered and credentialed to operate within the Tulum National Park and Jaguar Park. To further diversify the local economy, the state also introduced the ‘National Sports Tourism Strategy Tulum 2026’, which includes the ‘Euforia Freedom Tulum’ women's sports event scheduled for October 2–4.
