Turkey municipal bus fleet expansions
Entities: EGO General Directorate · Manisa Metropolitan Municipality · Ankara Metropolitan Municipality · Besim Dutlulu
Overview
In late July 2026 Ankara’s metropolitan municipality completed a planned upgrade of its public‑transport fleet, adding 20 new OTOKAR Kent LF diesel buses—ten 12‑metre solo units and ten 18‑metre articulated units—bringing the total number of EGO buses to 1,999. The addition is part of a broader schedule to acquire 569 new vehicles between 2019 and 2026. During the week of 13–19 July, the city recorded 6.2 million passenger trips across buses, metro lines and the ANKARAY, with a peak of 702,522 bus passengers on 16 July.
A week later the same expansion was confirmed for Ankara, and the report added that Manisa’s metropolitan municipality also broadened its fleet, placing 14 new buses into service and raising its yearly acquisition total to 26 vehicles. The Manisa buses will serve the city centre and several surrounding districts, aiming to improve reliability in rural neighbourhoods. Both municipalities cite goals of easing traffic congestion, enhancing passenger comfort and modernising municipal transport despite challenging economic conditions.
