Turkey participation in International Nuclear Science Olympi

Overview

Turkey participated in the 3rd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 2 to 9, marking its debut appearance in the competition. Following a nationwide selection process and intensive training conducted by the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK) under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Turkish high school delegation competed against approximately 120 contestants from 19 countries.

The training involved theoretical sessions in Istanbul and practical applications in Ankara. The Turkish team achieved significant success, with every participant placing in their respective categories. The delegation secured four medals: Ayaz Büyükterzi earned a gold medal for ranking in the top three overall, while Mert Karan, Barış Canbolat, and Ömer Akhan each received bronze medals.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar noted that the achievement demonstrates the competence of Turkish youth in nuclear sciences and the country's commitment to training future scientists.
