Turkey Republic Day celebrations

Overview

Preparations and celebrations are underway across Turkey for the 103rd anniversary of the Republic. In Menemen, local municipalities have organized concerts featuring artists such as Blok-3 and Aşkın Nur Yengi, with Mayor Aydın Pehlivan stating the events aim to express “gratitude and loyalty to the Republic.” In İzmir, the provincial government has coordinated a program of cultural, musical, and sporting activities, including folk dances like Zeybek and Caucasian shows, sailing races, and exhibitions by university engineering and aerospace teams to promote national unity. In Ankara, celebrations include events organized by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), featuring the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and performances by Kazakh singer Dimash Qudaibergen.

Regional activities have expanded to include large-scale athletic events and commemorative marches. Bursa hosted the ‘Metropolitan Republic Run’ with approximately 4,000 participants, while Denizli held the 2nd Lykos Half Marathon near the Pamukkale travertines and Hierapolis Ancient City. This marathon attracted nearly 20,000 people, including 10,000 registered athletes from 60 Turkish cities and 26 different countries. In Siirt, celebrations include wreath-laying ceremonies, lantern processions, and traditional folk dance performances. In Bingöl, festivities include mountain climbing to unfurl the Turkish flag on Sülbüs Mountain.

Regarding the holiday schedule, official celebrations begin at 13:00 on October 28, marking a half-day holiday, followed by a full public holiday on October 29. Educational and administrative guidelines have been issued to clarify teacher compensation and school schedules during this period.
